At a glance

  • Everything you enter stays on your device. Your appliance list and settings are stored locally on your iPhone. Wattdex has no servers, no accounts, and no way to see your data.
  • All features work offline. Electricity rate tables are bundled inside the App itself; no feature requires a network connection.
  • Analytics are anonymous. We use TelemetryDeck to count basic usage events. No appliance data, wattages, cost figures, photos, or anything you type ever leaves your device through analytics.
  • No ads, no tracking. Wattdex contains no advertising SDK and does not use the Advertising Identifier (IDFA).
  • Camera photos never leave your device. When you photograph an appliance nameplate, text recognition runs entirely on-device using Apple's Vision framework. The photo is processed in memory and is not saved by the App or uploaded anywhere.
  • You are in control. You can edit or delete any appliance at any time, and uninstalling the App removes all of its data.

1. Who this policy is from

Wattdex 抓電獸 ("the App") is made by TechnicolorLife LLC ("we," "us," or "TechnicolorLife"). This Privacy Policy explains what information the App handles, how it is handled, and what your rights are. By using the App you agree to the practices described here.

2. What Wattdex is for

Wattdex is a household electricity cost estimator designed for Taiwan. You build a list of your home appliances — by photographing their nameplates or energy-efficiency labels, or by entering values manually — and the App estimates each appliance's monthly electricity usage and cost using Taiwan Power Company's published progressive tariff. All calculations happen on your device.

3. Information the App handles

Below is every category of data the App handles. Apart from the anonymous analytics signals described in Section 3.5, nothing is transmitted to TechnicolorLife.

3.1 Appliance records you create

When you add an appliance, the App stores what you enter: a name, an appliance category, its rated power or annual energy consumption, and how often you use it. This data is saved in the App's local database on your device. It does not sync anywhere and is never uploaded.

3.2 Camera and photo library (on-device OCR)

If you grant permission, you can photograph an appliance's nameplate or energy label — or pick an existing photo from your library — and the App will read the power figures from it. Text recognition runs entirely on-device using Apple's Vision framework. The image is processed in memory only: the App does not save the photo, does not add anything to your photo library, and never transmits the image or the recognized text anywhere. You can deny camera or photo access and enter values manually instead; every feature of the App still works. Permissions can be changed at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Camera / Photos → Wattdex.

3.3 Notifications (local only)

If you enable reminders (for example, the start of Taiwan's summer electricity pricing on June 1, or the annual saving-rewards registration deadline), the App schedules local notifications through iOS. These are created and delivered on your device and are not routed through any server. You can disable them in the App or in iOS Settings → Notifications → Wattdex.

3.4 Settings and preferences

Your in-app preferences (such as which reminders are enabled) are stored locally on your device.

3.5 Anonymous analytics (TelemetryDeck)

Wattdex uses TelemetryDeck to understand how many people use the App and which features they reach. TelemetryDeck is designed to contain no personal data: it hashes a device-level identifier client-side and never transmits any identifiable information. The only signals Wattdex sends are basic events such as "appliance added" (with its category and input method), "nameplate scan completed," "share card shared," "saving tool opened," and "reminder toggled." We never send appliance names, wattages, energy figures, cost amounts, photos, recognized text, or any content you create in the App. You can block telemetrydeck.com on your network to opt out entirely.

3.6 Nothing else

The App does not collect or handle names, email addresses, phone numbers, contacts, precise or coarse location, health data, financial account data, browsing history, device identifiers for tracking, or any other category of personal information.

4. Where your data lives

All App data lives in Wattdex's local database on your iPhone, inside iOS's encrypted application sandbox. There is no "Wattdex account," no cloud login, and no TechnicolorLife-hosted database. If you uninstall the App, iOS removes all of its data. (If iCloud device backup is enabled on your phone, your device backup — managed entirely by Apple and your iCloud settings — may include the App's data like any other app.)

5. How your information is used

  • To show your appliance list and estimate monthly usage, cost, and tariff bracket — entirely on your device.
  • To read power figures from nameplate photos you choose to capture, on-device.
  • To deliver the local reminders you turn on.
  • To understand, in aggregate and anonymously via TelemetryDeck, which features people use so we can improve the App.

We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, training machine learning models, or selling to third parties.

6. Legal basis for processing (GDPR)

If you are located in a jurisdiction where GDPR or an equivalent law applies, the legal bases for processing are: performance of a contract (storing the appliance records you create so the App can show them to you), your consent (camera, photo library, and notification access, each prompted separately by iOS and revocable at any time in iOS Settings), and legitimate interests (anonymous, aggregated usage analytics via TelemetryDeck, which contains no personal data and which you can opt out of as described in Section 3.5).

7. Your rights

Because all data stays on your device, you exercise your rights directly in the App:

  • Access and rectification — every appliance is visible in the App and can be edited.
  • Erasure — delete any appliance, or uninstall the App to remove everything.
  • Withdraw consent — revoke camera, photo, or notification permission at any time in iOS Settings.
  • Complaint — if you believe we have handled data improperly, you may contact your local data protection authority.

8. California residents (CCPA / CPRA)

TechnicolorLife does not collect, sell, or share personal information as those terms are defined under the CCPA/CPRA. There is nothing to opt out of because nothing is collected, sold, or shared.

9. Children's privacy

Wattdex is a general-audience utility app and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13. All data remains on the device on which it is entered.

10. Security

App data is stored in iOS's encrypted application sandbox and benefits from device-level encryption when you set a passcode. TelemetryDeck signals are transmitted over HTTPS/TLS. No method of storage is 100% secure: if your device is lost, stolen, or compromised, data stored locally on it may also be compromised. Set a strong device passcode and enable Face ID or Touch ID.

11. International data transfer

Your appliance data never leaves your device, so no cross-border transfer of your information takes place. For anonymous TelemetryDeck analytics, TelemetryDeck processes data in the European Union; see their privacy policy for details.

12. Data retention

Your appliance records and settings stay in the App until you delete them or uninstall the App. TelemetryDeck retains the anonymous signals described in Section 3.5 according to their own retention policy, and the signals cannot be tied back to you.

13. App Tracking Transparency

Wattdex does not track you across apps or websites owned by other companies. We do not use the Advertising Identifier (IDFA) and do not integrate advertising SDKs. The App will never show you an App Tracking Transparency prompt because there is no tracking to ask about.

14. Third-party services

  • TelemetryDeck — used for anonymous, aggregated usage analytics. See their privacy policy.

We have no other third-party processors. On-device text recognition uses Apple's Vision framework, which is part of iOS and runs locally. We do not use advertising, crash-reporting-with-PII, or marketing automation services.

15. Estimates disclaimer

Electricity usage and cost figures shown in the App are estimates based on the appliance data you enter and the tariff tables published by Taiwan Power Company (台灣電力公司, "Taipower"). Your actual bill is determined solely by Taipower's metering and billing. Wattdex is an independent product of TechnicolorLife LLC and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Taipower.

16. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy over time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. If we make material changes, we will give you clear notice in the App and on technicolorlife.app before they take effect.
